SportNorthAyrshire’s 2011 Junior Indoor Pairs Bowling Competition was held at Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club on Sunday 27th March 2011.

 

The high standard of play and sportsmanship from the young people who participated must be commended.

2010 Events

Cunninghame Cup 2010

The prestigious Cunninghame Cup was the main subject of SportNorthAyrshire’s Annual Winter Fly fishing Competition on Sunday 24th October 2010.

 

There was an excellent turnout of keen competitors on a beautiful clear day at the newly revamped Glenburn Trout Fishery on the Fairlie Moor, leaving only 6 of the maximum 33 pegs unfilled. Fine fish were rising well and catches were impressive.

SportNorthAyrshire’s Karate Competition

Once again there was a very good turnout from both the Shibumi Karate Club and the Irvine Takeda Club at Sport North Ayrshire's Karate Competition which was held on 29th May in the Redburn Community Centre in Irvine. Ages ranged from 6 years to seniors (well over 21 years!) and all abilities were represented from white belt through to 2nd Dan.

Indoor Bowling Junior Pairs Competition

SportNorthAyrshire’s Indoor Bowling Junior Pairs Competition was held on Sunday 20th March hosted by Ardrossan Indoor Bowling Club.

The Club President Malcolm Mackay welcomed the excited juniors before the start of the Game.

 

Amongst the spectators, were quite a few parents supporting their youngsters, who each played five games of five ends.

2010 Sports Council Quiz

Congratulations to the ‘Saltcoats Warriors’ who romped to victory in the 2010 Sports Council Quiz.

It was third time lucky for the team (pictured here with the Quiz Shield) since they had twice been runners up in the popular Annual Quiz organised by SportNorthAyrshire’s resident Quizmaster Jim McCabe.

 

Junior Hockey Training Session - Inverclyde Sunday 7th February 2010

 

It was a very successful and well attended session which the junior section of Garnock Hockey Club thoroughly enjoyed.

 

The indoor facilities at the Inverclyde National Sports Training Centre were great and the best thing was that it didn't matter what the weather conditions were!

SportNorthAyrshire v SportRenfrewshire - First Annual Grand Challenge Match

 

Saturday 18th of September 2010 saw the first of hopefully decades of annual competitions between the two independent neighbouring Sports Councils of SportRenfrewshire and SportNorthAyrshire take place in the historic burgh of Kilwinning at the Blacklands Bowling Club.

 

Forty young bowlers in 5 rinks played 13 ends in the cool autumn sunshine with a high standard of play and a level of sportsmanship which would have graced any green.

2009 Events

NASC Speed Skating Competition October 2009

 

Ayrshire Flyers Speed Skating Club would like to thank NASC for providing trophies and ice for the competition held in the Magnum Leisure Centre on Sunday 18th October. It was well attended with competitors coming from clubs as far south as Birmingham and as far north as Dundee.

Cunninghame Cup 2009

 

On a trying day at Middleton Fishery the 2009 Cunninghame Cup was held. The number of entrants was slightly down on last year but attracted a few new faces to the Event. Although the fish played hard to get there were some lovely specimens on show at the weigh-in. The Event was nearly a clean sweep for the McClymont family from Saltcoats. Father Bud and his twin sons Bryan and Kenny took the top three places with Bryan holding onto the heaviest fish until the last competitor weighed in and he was beaten by Paul Webster by three ounces.

NASC Karate Competition — Saturday 3rd October 2009

 

The North Ayrshire Sports Council Karate Competition was held on Saturday 3rd October in Redburn Community Centre, Irvine.

There was a fantastic turnout from the competing clubs – Shibumi Karate Club and Takeda Karate Club. The competitors were encouraged by fellow club members as well as parents. The trophies were donated by North Ayrshire Sports Council.

North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup, 17th May 2009

 

On a beautiful May morning 26 anglers turned up to fish the North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup at the Busbie Muir Dam just outside Ardrossan. A blanket of excitement and anticipation submerged the competitors before the start generating an electric atmosphere.

Magnum Figure Skating Open 2009

 

The Magnum Figure Skating Open competition was held at the rink on the weekend of the 7th and 8th March 2009 with a record entry this year of over 240 skaters. The event was sponsored this year by Spirit Aerosystems and the skating as usual was very competitive.

NASC Quiz Night - 2009

 

“A good way to spend a Friday Night” was the verdict from more than one of the assembled participants at the Argyle Centre Saltcoats on 20th March 2009.

All were hopeful of victory in this popular quiz, now in its third successful year. Quizmaster and Sports Council Chairman Jim McCabe was in charge of the red book and no one was disappointed in the range and depth of questions set.
