Richard Main from North Ayrshire Table Tennis Club has just returned from the Algarve in Portugal where he was representing Scotland in the Portuguese Youth Table Tennis Championships as part of the British squad.
Richard spent 4 days competing in his 1st ever World Grand Prix event where he competed against 8 of the top countries in the world. This was a big step up in class for Richard aged 16, but he competed well and played some of the best table tennis of his career. He nearly brought off his biggest win to date by losing a very close match to the European ranked third player from Sweden. Richard was two sets to one up but eventually lost 11-8 in the final set.
Richard, who is still at school, currently holds 2 Scottish titles and coaches a number of youngsters from his club in the evenings.
