NASC Quiz Night - 2009

“A good way to spend a Friday Night” was the verdict from more than one of the assembled participants at the Argyle Centre Saltcoats on 20th March 2009.

All were hopeful of victory in this popular quiz, now in its third successful year. Quizmaster and Sports Council Chairman Jim McCabe was in charge of the red book and no one was disappointed in the range and depth of questions set. Pot Luck was the first round with Scotland, Food and Drink, TV and Films and of course Sport giving everyone something to shine at. Can you name the most commonly eaten fruit?

Team names showed considerable imagination with the Muppets; the Jeremys; the Babes; the Dolly Burds; the Saltcoats Warriors and the Tibetan Goat Herders amongst others taking the challenge. Competitors represented a good cross section of sports – Karate, Ice Dancing, Speed Skating, Bowling, Disabled Rugby and Shooting with a selection of Mums and Dads roped in as team ‘roadies’.

There was good tactical play in the deployment of Jokers and the Dolly Burds proved that the powerful combination of Mums and their Daughters is not one to be tangled with.

The Dolly Burds snatched victory in the final round from the Tibetan Goat Herders who were over confidently in the lead by round four. The Saltcoats Warriors were narrowly pipped into third place, but they deserve honourable mention for their consistently good performances in each of the three years of the quiz being held. Warriors’ team manager says they’ll definitely be back next year to lift the trophy.

Thanks is due to our Quizmaster for sustaining the evening, to Mr and Mrs Maloney of Fairways Trophies in Irvine for donating the shield and for everyone who turned out to make it a great evening.
