On a beautiful May morning 26 anglers turned up to fish the North Ayrshire Sports Council Cup at the Busbie Muir Dam just outside Ardrossan. A blanket of excitement and anticipation submerged the competitors before the start generating an electric atmosphere.
The fish weren’t shy at the start of the competition as they were landed by competitors on both sides of the dam and by 12.30 the first competitor with his bag limit weighed in then the next followed by more soon after him. The fish were of excellent quality averaging nearly 2 lb 7oz per fish.
At the end it was a very close fought event with the lead changing various times as well as the heaviest fish which was eventually won by the last competitor to weigh in. The results are as follows;
1st Tam Harvey 4 fish for 10lb 3oz
2nd Gary Young 4 fish for 10lb 1oz
3rd Willie Hughes 4 fish for 9lb 14oz
Heaviest fish was a fine Rainbow at 4lb 8oz caught by Tony Clark.
I would like to thank Ardrossan Eglinton Angling Club for hosting the event and a big thanks to the competitors who turned up, without them my job wouldn’t be as enjoyable as it is. Thanks to all!
