Two Bowl Junior Pairs - Sunday 27th July 2008

 

North Ayrshire Sports Council actively supported the Ayrshire North Scottish Young Bowlers Association Two Bowl Junior Pairs competition which was held at Ardeer Rec Bowling Club, Stevenston on Sunday 27th July. Twelve keen teams entered this year and the sun gods shone on us all day.

Beginning play with a round-robin, 4 teams were eliminated and the top two teams in both sections went into a semi-final. In addition 3rd and 4th places ran in a consolation competition.

This tactic, aimed to keep as many teams bowling for as much time as possible, was tried for the first time this year and had a very positive response from coaches, parents and the young players themselves. It gave valuable extra practice for these talented youngsters under competition conditions.

The Main Semi Final was contested by Blacklands A v Blacklands C and Irvine Park A v Ardeer Rec B; from which Blacklands A and Irvine Park A went through to the Grand Final.

Audrey Campbell and Chris Carswell from Blacklands emerged as the winners. Alex Cairns and Darren Bingham from Irvine Park were the runners up, at the end of a very enjoyable final with a high standard of play.

An excellent day of bowls was had by all and the hot and sunny weather kept the tuck shop busy selling juice. Many thanks to North Ayrshire Sports Council for providing the trophies for this increasingly popular event.
